Managing Oily Scalp

In the previous article, we learnt about the causes of oily scalp and how to identity oily scalp & sweaty scalp. Now that we know the problem, how do we manage it? Here are some tips!
1. Wash less often
Some of us are shampooing too often! How do you know when is just right? If you are washing more than once a day, you may want to reduce to once a day. When you feel that your hair is starting to get oily, you can rinse water through your hair or you can use Phytodetox Spray in between to cleanse. If you are already washing your hair once a day, you can try extending to 1.5days.
If you cannot help yourself and you feel the need to wash every day, or even more than once a day, you can use Phytopanama Shampoo.
2. Shampoo properly
It doesn’t seem like rocket science, but yes, you can wash your hair incorrectly and end up with an oily scalp and dry hair. To properly wash your hair, wet your hair thoroughly. Use a small amount of shampoo. Apply shampoo on scalp and gently work a lather on our roots and scalp. Avoid using your nails to scratch or creating unnecessary friction on the strands. Aggressive scrubbing can irritate your scalp and cause it to produce more oils.
Focus on your scalp, where the sebum is, rather than on the length of your hair. Leave on shampoo for 1 – 2 minutes then rinse off. Instead, simply let the shampoo flow through the ends as you rinse.
3. Condition carefully
Conditioner can make your hair look greasy and cause oils to pile up faster. Condition just the ends of your hair and be sure to thoroughly rinse. Apply all hair mask or conditioners from ear level and below and not above.
4. Manage the heat
Refrain from hot showers and refrain from Steam rooms and Blow Dryer’s heat on scalp when you blow dry.
5. Use products formulated for oily hair & Avoid products with silicone
Many products, including shampoos, conditioners, creams, and styling products, are made with silicone to help smooth hair and add shine
In addition to adding extra gloss that can look an awful lot like grease, silicones — like cyclomethicone, amodimethicone, and the most common, dimethicone — can build up on the hair and make it look dirty, oily, and weighed down.
Silcones can also prevent beneficial moisture from getting into the hair shafts. Do your roots a favor and skip any products with ingredients ending in “cone.”
6. Be gentle with yourself
Whether you’re washing, brushing, styling, or scratching your head, it’s important to be extra gentle. Irritating your scalp can actually over-stimulate your scalp and cause your oil glands to produce even more oil.
7. Avoid Straight Hair Styles & Pony Tails
When you have straight hair, sebum flows down faster compared to people with curly hair.
Pulling back your hair can cause your scalp’s oils to spread faster and make your hair look greasier especially if your hair is fine and not dense.
8. Daily & Weekly Detox
Meaning of Detox: A process or period of time in which one abstains from or rids the body of toxic or unhealthy substances; detoxification. Similarly for our scalp and hair, we need to have a detox it regularly.
